How Focusrite's Red and RedNet solutions empower RAWR productions everywhere they need to be

The Burbank-based post facility, RAWR Productions, is in exactly the right place for L.A.’s busy television business, but owner Jeff Hannan still likes working from home at times. Focusrite’s line-up, including products like the Red 16Line interface and RedNet R1 desktop, makes for a completely seamless and transparent workflow when moving between locations.

RAWR Productions

Los Angeles' post-production industry has experienced significant consolidation recently, opening doors for independent organizations to excel. RAWR Productions, a 2,500-square-foot, Webby Award-winning post facility in Burbank, has carved out a niche in television's growing documentary and docu-drama genres. Their impressive portfolio includes projects like Showtime’s We Need To Talk About Cosby, HBO’s The Stroll, and the Webby-winning Power On: The Story of Xbox.

A young shop like RAWR sees consistent growth by thriving on constant and efficient work. Co-owner Jeff Hannan, alongside his wife Alicia, a seasoned post-facility director, emphasizes the importance of their gear complement to their success and daily operations. He highlights how the seamless connectivity and simplicity of using single Cat-6 cable lines to network the facility’s four suites for Dante audio significantly boosts productivity and creativity.

A crucial part of RAWR Productions' routing setup is the inclusion of Focusrite Red and RedNet components, Jeff, whose audio roots date back to the analog era, adds, “Oh, and they also sound fantastic, the mic pres are amazing.”

Their studio set up includes:

  • Two Red 16Line 64-In / 64-Out Thunderbolt™ and Pro Tools | HD™ audio interfaces
  • A Red 8Pre 64-In / 64-Out Thunderbolt™ and Pro Tools | HD™ audio interface
  • Three RedNet R1 Desktop Remote Monitor Controllers.

Like millions of Americans, Jeff had to set up a home workspace during the COVID pandemic and found he often preferred it even after restrictions lifted.

The Pro Tools-based editing and mixing studio he set up remains in place and is seamlessly connected with the RAWR facility, sharing several Focusrite hardware solutions, including one of the Red 16Lines and an R1 controller. “I was able to mirror the systems at home and in the studio, so I can easily move between locations and keep my productivity up,” he says. “Naturally, I wanted the Focusrite[devices]to be part of that. I started with a Red 16Line at home and went from there. I have [RedNet] R1s in the color and audio rooms at the facility and one at home. It’s just so versatile .We’re planning on adding moreX2Ps to the online suites. I love my Red and RedNet interfaces!”
