Never Stop Creating — The Snuts
Scarlett interfaces have become the interface of the people, enabling millions of musicians, songwriters, and producers to record, mix, and play back audio in studio-quality worldwide. If you’re an artist starting out, developing your skills, or even touring, chances are you’ve recorded with a Scarlett. For this spotlight we feature The Snuts, a Glasgow-based band that use two Scarletts for their recordings.
The Snuts consist of Jack Cochrane (vocals and guitar), Joe McGillveray (guitar), Callum ‘29’ Wilson (bass) and Jordan Mackay (drums). They formed the band at school, but it wasn’t until 2016 that they started releasing demo recordings whilst playing local support gigs.
In November 2018, they signed to Parlophone Records and released their first single under the label, ‘All Your Friends’, in May 2019. In April 2021, they released their debut album W.L., which became a UK Number One.
The Snuts are passionate about making music and being able to just get on with what is crucial to their workflow.
“When we’re playing live, it’s that connection and communication you have with an audience. It’s why you do it, it’s what keeps you coming back. The more you write music, the less attached to a specific process you become. The more precious you are about your process, the more you kind of strangle your creativity. Whatever kind of comes out, comes out — that’s our jam.
“So, we have a Scarlett interface 18i20 and the 2i2 and they both have such different roles but are equally important for us. Having the clarity of the sounds we want — it’s nice being able to capture that at source. Being able to plug in and play, it just really opened us up to not having to wait… when we feel like making music — let’s make music!”
