Focusrite powers high-end 5.1 audio post-production for KST Moschkau GmbH

When KST Moschkau GmbH set out to build a state-of-the-art 5.1 audio post-production workstation for a client, their brief was clear: reference-level sound quality, maximum routing flexibility, and a fully network-based infrastructure built to last. The solution they delivered had Focusrite technology at its core.

A system built for demanding work

At the heart of the workstation is an Avid Pro Tools® Ultimate system running on an HDX card inside a high-performance HP Z8 workstation. This combination was chosen for its DSP performance, low latency, and stability under the demands of complex post-production routing and mixing.

A Marian Clara E handles integration with the Dante® infrastructure, and a Luminex GigaCore 14R is the central network switch.

Focusrite as the technical centre

Two Focusrite products define the architecture. The Red 16Line is the central interface, connecting the Pro Tools HDX environment directly to the Dante network via Digilink. The dual capability of native Digilink connection to Pro Tools alongside full Dante integration means the system operates with minimal latency through Pro Tools while simultaneously distributing signals across the network.

High-quality AD/DA conversion, extensive analogue inputs and outputs, and flexible routing without additional converters make the Red 16Line the hub of the entire setup. Its analogue outputs feed the 5.1 monitoring system directly, removing the need for a separate converter stage in the monitoring chain.

For microphone preamplification, the studio relies on the Focusrite RedNet MP8R — an eight-channel, remotely controllable mic preamp with integrated Dante connectivity.

Voice recordings are captured through Neumann microphones, considered reference quality in broadcast and post-production, with gain control managed via an Avid S3 controller. Direct integration into the Dante network keeps signal paths short and the system ready for future expansion.

Reference monitoring and synchronisation

The loudspeaker system comprises four Klein & Hummel O300s, a Klein & Hummel O110, and a Neumann KH 805 subwoofer, controlled via the analogue outputs of the Red 16Line. An RTW TouchControl 5 serves as the monitor controller, providing convenient preset selection and the precise metering that standards-compliant 5.1 broadcast and film work demands. Timecode synchronisation is handled by an Avid Sync X, ensuring exact alignment with video and external production systems.

The result

KST Moschkau GmbH delivered a modular, fully network-based post-production environment that meets the technical and operational demands of professional media production.

Focusrite technology, including the Red 16Line bridging Digilink and Dante, and the RedNet MP8R providing reference preamplification, serves as the foundation of a system architecture that offers uncompromising audio quality, flexible routing, seamless HDX integration, and the expandability to grow with future production requirements.
